Treatment of Infectious Disease

At the office of Southern Medical Suites, our experienced medical team offers the skilled care required to help prevent, diagnose and treat a broad range of infectious diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites.

The best strategy is prevention

With advances in medicine and modern vaccines, it’s been possible to control the spread of many infectious diseases and eradicate others. For this reason, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention strongly recommend children get vaccinated against diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, polio, measles, rubella (German measles), mumps, Haemophilus influenza type B, hepatitis B, varicella (chickenpox) and influenza.

It’s essential to keep in mind that protection against infectious diseases is not just for children. Taking steps to prevent infectious disease applies to adults as well. Recommendations for adults include a seasonal flu vaccine and booster shots every ten years for Td (Tetanus and Diptheria). These vaccines are especially important for people with chronic health conditions, pregnant women, and older adults.

You can rest assured that your healthcare is in the best of hands at our office. We’ll make sure that all your immunizations are up to date and make recommendations for additional vaccines as indicated. And, if your travel plans include venturing to other parts of the globe, we’ll also provide you with healthcare advice as well as any vaccines and medications to help ward off potentially dangerous infectious diseases while away from home.

The diagnosis and treatment of infectious disease

Since the consequences of an infectious disease can range from mild to far more severe, it’s important to be mindful of any exposure to harmful microorganisms or symptoms of disease. Remember to contact our office for prompt, effective care. By identifying the underlying microorganism and cause of the infection, we can then select the appropriate medication or antibiotic as well as determine the duration of therapy, and the route of drug administration.

Our goal is to help patients with infectious diseases chart a path to wellness. In some cases, our primary care providers collaborate with infectious disease doctors and other medical specialists to provide the most precise and effective care.
